Eva Garthwaite, age 91, of Madison and formerly of Mt. Hope, died Monday, December 14, 1992 in Gray's Nursing Home in Platteville.
She was born on November 20, 1901, near Mt. Hope, the daughter of Christopher and Mary Ann Hess Alderson. She graduated from the Mt. Hope High School. On December 6, 1922, she married Archie Garthwaite. They owned and operated a hardware store in Mt. Hope. He died in June, 1946. After his death she moved to Madison, where she worked as a record clerk in the Bureau of Vital Statistics until retiring. She was an active member of the Dane County Retired Senior Volunteer Program, where she was recognized for having made of 15,000 hand puppets as gifts. She had resided in Madison until December 7, when she entered Gray's Nursing Home.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Plimpton and Mrs. Cora Graf.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, December 17, at the Mt. Hope United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Hermitage Cemetery, Mt. Hope. Friends my call from 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning at the church until the time of services. The Bonin-Bendorf Funeral Home, Platteville, is in charge of arrangements.
