In Loving Memory of...
Henry Amos Fort
Henry Amos Fort was the son of Robert Lemuel Fort and Eugenia Amos Fort. He lived in Monroe Co., GA all of his life with the last 6 years of it spent at Hilltop Nursing Home, Monroe Co., GA after he became too feeble to continue to live alone.
He was married to Belle Josey Smith Fort who died at age 32 of pneumonia. My grandmother, Emily Fort Tingle, was only 6 years old when her Mother (Belle) died and had just fell and broken her leg. I can only imagine the heartache Pa Fort must have felt, losing his wife at such a young age and having two small children to raise alone. I have no doubt the rest of the family stepped up to help Pa Fort with the children as much as they could, but I'm sure it was a very difficult time for him nonetheless. I can remember my grandmother telling me that her grandmother (Belle's mother) Susan Harrison Smith helped take care of she and her brother Bob.
As a small child I can remember my mother used to go to Hilltop every Sunday after church and pick up Pa Fort and bring him to our house to spend the day. What fun!
