John's surname has also been spelled Allcock, Allcocke, Alcott.
He was recorded as a planter at York,ME as early as 1639. His servant John Smith ran away and was returned to him by court order Sep 9,1640. His name appears on June 16,1643 when he bought a homestead in York, and he rented land from William Hooke on that same date. He was a juror in 1647, and he bought land at Cape Neddick Beach on Jul 16,1650.
He submitted to the Mass government and was appointed a sergeant on Nov 22,1652 in the town militia, and he was a member of the first Board of Selectmen in 1652 and was a Selectman in several succeeding years.
His estate was settled Mar 1675. John was recorded as one of the wealthiest men in York County, ME, with a "large property...on Alcock's Neck."
