James Aikman passed away Thursday, March 8, 2012. He was born in Chattanooga in 1928. He attended Southern Junior College (now known as SAU) in Collegedale, where he learned the printing trade, and eventually worked for the U.S. Government Printing Office in Long Island, N.Y. and Faith For Today in New York.
In 1970, he and his family moved to Beirut, Lebanon where he served as the manager of the Middle East Press until 1976, when they returned to the United States and settled in Collegedale. After working for the Collegedale Printing Press, in Collegedale and the Christian Record Braille Foundation in Lincoln, NE, he retired in Cleveland, Tenn., where he and his wife were members of the Bowman Hills SDA church.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Aikman; daughter, Valerie Aikman Beck; son, William Aikman; and grandchildren, Janae Dillon and Scott Beck.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Collegedale Cemetery, Collegedale, with Pastor Ted Dubs officiating.
