DRAKE, Sandra Sandra S. Drake of Kennesaw, Georgia, passed away in peace on March 14, 2010 at Cartersville Medical Center under Heartland Hospice care. She was born August 5, 1929 in Florida of parents Charlie Hammonds and Minnie Echols. She attended Baylor University and later received her Associates degree in Political Science from Kennesaw State University. She was past president and an active member of The Atlanta Orchid Society. In earlier years, her design talents helped the organization win many awards in flower shows. Her love and knowledge of plants helped to incorporate and maintain foliage backgrounds for sanctuaries of both Roswell Street Baptist Church and Towne View Baptist Church. Being an excellent seamstress, she volunteered her time in making educational bags for Bulgaria Child, Inc. orphanage, a mission project sponsored by Towne View Baptist Church. She was the second oldest of six girls, survived by sisters Mae Pope of Valdosta, Georgia, Sadie Howell of Jackson, Mississippi, and Louise Engle of Arlington, Texas. She is also survived by her daughters Sandy Bishop-Turner of Decatur and Pam Chapman of Woodstock; son-in-law David Chapman, Sr., grandchildren Melissa Jenkins, David Chapman, Jr., Amy Chapman, Molly Eisele, Jonathan Chapman, Michael Chapman, Stephanie Chapman; two great-grandchildren, Anthony Chapman and Thomas Eisele and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her death are mother, Minnie Hammond Mcie, sister Sue Hammond Brown and sister Faye Clark Brown. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Towne View Baptist Church by Pastor Jim Conrad, Jr., preceded by a family graveside service in Decatur that morning. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Towne View Baptist Church ministries and/or missions. Crematory arrangements made by Wages & Sons Funeral Home in Stone Mountain, 770-469-9811.
