Michael W. Fenner 59, of Springfield passed away at home Monday April 14, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 6, 1948 in Fayette County, Oh to Wayne and Lela (Shipley) Fenner. Mike retired from International after 31 years of service, was Past President of the Veterans Committee of Local 402 and served as Local 402 Union Steward. He served in Vietnam in 1968-1969 and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Marksman, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He was a Lifetime member of the VFW Post 1031 where he served two terms as the Commander, was a sons advisor for many years and dedicated his life to fellow Veterans. He also was a member of the Union Club and an avid Cleveland Browns Fan. His family meant everything to him and he adored each and every one of them. He was blessed with many dear and close friends and cherished their friendship. Mike was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law, David Worthen. Special thanks to Dr. Felix Kencana and his staff at the Springfield Cancer Center for all their care during Mike's treatment. Words alone cannot explain how much Mike was loved and will be missed. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Conroy Funeral Home with VFW services at 7:30 p.m. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 12:00 noon Friday at the VFW Post 1031 Youth Building. Memorial donations can be made to the VFW Post 1031, 1237 E. Main St., Springfield, Oh 45505.
