Gordon Lee Hansen
09/26/1928 ~ 05/09/2013
Our beloved husband, father, grandpa, papa Gordon Lee Hansen passed away quietly, peacefully, humbly, as he had lived, with family, and his sweet Bishop Rossiter, at his side on Thurs. May 9th 2013.
Born on Sept 26th 1928 in Twin Falls, Idaho to Leland Arelian Hansen and Bertha Mae Thurgood Hansen, who instilled in him loyalty to family, work til the chores are done and then some, honoring commitments, love of learning, and serving tirelessly tenderly, unconditionally, and a love for His Savior and all whom he met.
Gordon served in the Army during the Korean War where after his discharge he met, fell in love and married the love of his life, the petite, blue-eyed Danish girl Alice Birthe Stilling. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on Feb. 24th 1954.
Early years of marriage were spent in Idaho working the land he loved as a farmer. The family eventually moved to Salt Lake City, Utah and continued raising their four children whom he is survived by along with his sweetheart Alice of 59+ years; _____________; __________; _________;_______. Gordon loved children and found abundant joy in the grandchildren and great grandchildren that joined his posterity. He was Grandpa/Papa to; ________________________________________________________ . His siblings Leland (Norma) Hansen, John D. (Pat) Hansen, Faun (Bob) Turley, Veon Hansen Horman and James (Shauna) Hansen.
He spent his career years doing what was so natural for Gordon, caring for others as a Social Worker for the Utah State Dept of Social Services.
Gordon was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in all his church callings. He loved the Temple and served as an Ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple together with his wife, continuing the work as a patron for as long as he was able.
Preceded in death by his parents and sweet brothers William K. Hansen, and Vernon A. Hansen, sister-in-law Emma Baker, brother in-law Verl Horman, son-in-law Charles Philip Sampson, daughter-in-law Janie Marie Chavez.
A viewing will be held Monday May 13th from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the L.D.S. Fortuna Ward and prior to the Funeral Services Tues. May 14th 2013 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Fortuna Ward, (Mt. Olympus Stake) 4407 Fortuna Way, SLC, Utah 84124.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to staff of St. Marks Hospital who graciously attended to our loved one Gordon in the final hours of his earthly sojourn.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Perpetual Education Fund.
'The King of Cowboy wisdom has returned to the Great Spirit in the sky,' Oh the tales he could tell, The 'Supreme Storyteller' will be sorely missed and tenderly remembered forever in our hearts! God Be With You 'Til We Meet Again!
'Bye darlin'- we'll talk Cowboy again real soon' -Gordon
