|Benjamin T. Busby|
Benjamin Busby appears in the 1850 Shelby County, Alabama Census at the age of 22 with his parents and siblings. This Census notes that he was working as a laborer. This Census also lists a middle initial but I am not able to say with certainty if his middle initial is 'T' or 'J'. This Census notes that he could not read or write.
Benjamin T. Busby appears at the age of 20 in the 1860 Shelby, Alabama Census with both of his parents. This Census did ask which members of the household could not read or write. Benjamin T. Busby did not have a mark made, while others on this Census page did, so the question was asked but apparently Benjamin T. Busby became literate by the time this Census was taken.
Benjamin Busby, age 40, appears in the 1870 Shelby, Alabama Census with his sister, Nancy Busby. This Census lists him as being 'idiotic'. It is my speculation that something may have occurred during the Civil War that resulted in Benjamin T. Busby becoming disabled.
Benjamin Busby, age 53, appears in the 1880 Calera, Shelby, Alabama Census with his sister, Nancy Busby. In this Census, he is listed as being both blind and idiotic.
