HITCHEN, F. JAMES, 101, of Galloway Township, passed away with Diane Dotzman his longtime caretaker by his side at his home on April 18, 2002. He was born in Fenton, England. Mr. Hitchen came to the U.S. at the age of six and resided in Ohio and Trenton before coming to Atlantic County in 1923. Mr. Hitchen was an Assistant to the President of Atlantic Electric (now Conectiv), and also headed the Insurance, Real Estate and Right of Way Departments. After retiring from Atlantic Electric in 1962, he handled land acquisitions for the Atlantic City Expressway and later worked for Byron Jenkins Real Estate Appraisal. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church in Somers Point and formerly a member of Saint James Church in Atlantic City. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Mr. Hitchen served in the U.S. Navy during WW I.
He is predeceased by his wife Harriet, a son, Robert E., and a granddaughter Cathleen. He is survived by his daughter, Marilyn H. Brown and her husband Spence of Galloway Township; nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, and one great great granddaughter. He also leaves many nieces and nephews.
A Burial Office will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2002 at the Adams-Perfect Funeral Home, 1650 New Road, Northfield. Burial will be at the Laurel Memorial Park, Pomona. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the ACMC Hospice, PO Box 1626, Pleasantville, NJ 08232, or Christ Episcopal Church, 157 Shore Road, Somers Point, NJ 08244.
