August W. Anderson, a resident of Douglas County for almost half a century, died suddenly at his home in Alexandria last Friday at the age of 51 years. Death was Caused by cerebral hemorrhage, following a period of ill health for some time past.
Mr. Anderson was born in Norway on March 2, 1883, and came to this country with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Anderson, when he was four years old. The family located first on a farm in Lake Mary Township, and later moved to Alexandria township. He grew to manhood here, attending the public schools and being confirmed in the First English Lutheran Church.
He was united in marriage to Martha Woolliscroft on August 9, 1911. To this union two children were born, one of whom survives: Alice (Mrs. Wm. Peterson) together with the bereaved wife and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Otto Anderson. There are alos seven step-children: S.O. Woollicroft of Alexandria township, John Woolliscroft, Bagley, Minnesota; Herbert R. Woolliscroft, Seattle;, Hansina (Mrs. Wm. Anderson) Clearbrook; Rose (Mrs. Byron Trefethren) Nelson, Minnesota; Ida (Mrs. Charles Ramsdell) Brandon, Minnesota; Lena (Mrs. Carl Engen) Garfield, Minnesota.
Four brothers and four sisters also survive: Ole and Ed Anderson, who live in Idaho; John and Reuben of Alexandria; Anna (Mrs. Fred Haas) who lives in South Dakota; Bertha (Mrs. John Van Campen), Olga (Mrs. Otto Wetternauch) and Minnie (Mrs. John Wetternauch) of Minneapolis.
Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock from the Anderson Funeral Chapel and at 2:30 o'clock from Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Nelson, Minnesota, Reverend C.E. Hansen, officiating.
Burial was in the Nelson cemetery. The Pall bearers were: Geo. Olson, Otto Peterson, John Lund, Leonard Hanson, Henry Fjelstul, and Christ Knutson.

In Norway, August was born under the name August Ottosen, since his father was named Otto. The father is noted as being from Lima Parish, in Dalarna, Sweden. The mother is notes as from SolÝr in Norway.

registering to leave Oslo May 5, 1887, leaving May 6, 1887, Otto Anderson (and Ella Anderson) married couple, laborer, age 32 for him, age 25 for her. Leaving Grue parish, (in Hedmark county, Norway) going to Alexandria, A.Sharpe was the travel agency, Marsdin was the ship, which probably just took them as far as Hull England, then overland to Liverpool to catch a trans-Atlantic ship for the overseas part of the voyage.

Their children: Olaf age 4.75, August age 4, Martin age 3 and Einar age .5, all Ottosen for patronymic last name, after their father Otto.

Olaf August and Einar were still living on the 1900 census, but the brother Martin died sometime between emigration in 1887 and 1900 in Douglas County.
