Obituary:
Park Region Echo (Alexandria, Minnesota)
June 13, 1940, page 6 column 5
Mrs. Otto Anderson (Ellen)
Mrs. Otto Anderson passed away at the Hibbard Rest home in Alexandria, June 8, 1940 at 8:15 pm at the age of 81 years, 5 months 9 days. She was born in Solar (Solør) Norway January 7, 1859. She grew to womanhood in Norway, having attended the public school and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
She was married to Otto Anderson (from Lima parish, Dalarna, Sweden) in Norway October 1880. Here they resided until 1887 when they emigrated from Norway to America. They came to Douglas County and for a short time located in Lake Mary Township. Mr. Anderson then took charge of the Senator Knute Nelson farm which he operated for five years. He then bought a farm in Alexandria township near Lake Jessie and this was their home until his death.
Due to poor health, Mrs. Anderson was taken to the Hibbard Rest Home last Thursday.
There were eleven children born to this union. Four children as well as Mr. Anderson have preceded her in death. The following seven children survive: Eddie Anderson of Asahka, Idaho; Anna (Mrs. Haas) of Canistota, South Dakota; Bertha (Mrs. Harris) of Big Lake; Olga (Mrs. Otto Wetternack) of Minnneapolis; Minnie (Mrs. John Wetternack) of Minneapolis, John and Reuben Anderson at home.
Also, two brothers, Peter and Martin Erickson of Solør, Norway, and 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren survive.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at the Anderson Funeral Chapel and at 2:00 pm at the Svea Lutheran Church (now known as Fahlun Lutheran) Mrs. Ted Schelin sang "In the Garden" and "City Four Square". Interment was made in the Norwegian cemetery in Nelson.
Pallbearers were George Olson, Chris Knutson, John Iverson, John Taylor, Louis Lund, and T. Kunde.

Born in Solør, Hedmark County, Norway. Died in Alexandria, Minnesota.
Her obituary notes two brothers in 1940 still in Norway, Peter and Martin Erickson of Solar. Another note for one of her children say her maiden name was Olson. My guess is her father had the name Erik Olsen, since the brothers bear the name Eriksen. (Norwegian spelling.)

Spouse: Otto Anderson from Lima, Sweden. Married Otto in Grue, Solør area of Hedmark County, Norway. Had 4 sons from 1882 to 1887 in Grue parish. Emigrated 6 May 1887 from port of Oslo.

registering to leave Oslo May 5, 1887, leaving May 6, 1887, Otto Anderson (and Ella Anderson) married couple, laborer, age 32 for him, age 25 for her. Leaving Grue parish, (in Hedmark county, Norway) going to Alexandria, A.Sharpe was the travel agency, Marsdin was the ship, which probably just took them as far as Hull England, then overland to Liverpool to catch a trans-Atlantic ship for the overseas part of the voyage.

Back in Norway, with clues from her obituary, I find Eli/Ella/Ellen Olsdatter, daughter of Ole Eriksen, in Grue Parish.
The marriage of Otto Andersen and Eli Olsdatter in October of 1881 is found here in the Grue Ministerial record book:
http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_kildeid=6041&idx_id=6041&uid=ny&idx_side=-264

It is indexed online through the familysearch.org website:

Married 16 October 1881 at Revholt local parish Church in Grue main parish, or Grue municipality, groom is Otto Andersen from Moldusen farm in Grue, tenant farmer's son, born 1855, his first marriage, Otto is the son of Anders Olsen Moldusen (also spelled Mouldusen) of Grue. It says that Otto Andersen is born at Moldusen farm.
Bride is Eli Olsdatter born 1859, daughter of tenant farmer Ole Eriksen from Halvorkjærnsberget farm there at Grue municipality in Hedmark.

both Eli and Otto are found with their families on the 1865 census, and the notation for both families is that their ethnicity is Kven (also spelled Qvæn). Kven means that those families were originally and ethnically from northern Finland,

Kvens (kveeni in Kven language / Finnish; kvener in Norwegian, and kveanat in Northern Sami) are an ethnic minority in Norway who are descended from Finnish peasants and fishermen who emigrated from the northern parts of Finland and Sweden to Northern Norway in the 18th and 19th centuries. In 1996 the Kvens were granted minority status in Norway, and in 2005 the Kven language was recognized as a minority language in Norway.

Here are the 1865 censuses showing first Eli (Ellen) and then Otto's families.

The 1875 census, 10 years later, and 6 years before they married, shows Eli with the two brothers mentioned in her Alexandria, Minnesota Obituary. Her father is a logger, supporting the family with logging and 'floating' which can mean sending the logs downstream to the mill. The ethnicity is still noted as Kven. K.K.

The 1875 census for Otto Andersen clarifies that while his father was originally from Grue, in Hedmark Norway, his mother had come from Lima, Dalarna, Sweden, and the oldest children were also born in her home tract. So their ethnicity is k.s., Kven (northern Finnish from Sweden.)
That area of Grue is also called Finn-skogen, the Finnish Forest.

The brother of Ellen, mentioned in her obit, Peder Olsen (son of Ole Eriksen) is still living at the Halvorkjærnsberget farm in 1900, with his wife and kids:

The f for their ethnicity is now meaning Finn - the wiki article explains that Kven was replace by Finn, but today it's back to Kven. Political correctness. Ellen's father Ole Eriksen is still at the farm, and listed as a widower. He is supported by private welfare.

In 1910, the family is still at the Halvorkjernberget farm, even Ellen's father Ole Eriksen, who is remarried.
