Born the second son to Ralph Jonathon West and Irene Caroline Baldwin in Oberlin, Lorain County, Ohio. His West family had moved to the area from Berkshire County Massachusetts by the 1830s, and were among the earlier settlers to Pittsfield.
Parents divorced and remarried by 1940, and each had second families. Brother Theodore remained with the beloved grandparents Art & Della Twining West in Oberlin, while Raymond struggled to make a place with his father's new family in Bedford, Ohio.
Raymond Married Patricia Davis and in this brief union had 2 daughters Barbara and Debbie; next he married Carol Joyce Simsik and had 5 children Raymond, David, Susan, Judy, and Adam; he married a final time to Karin Tazelaar and in his late life enjoyed 2 young sons before his death to cancer.
In his years in Ohio, Raymond enjoyed horses and boats, and worked in the auto industry. In his later life he enjoyed the more frequent company of his brother, and ran two small antique shops.
Raymond was cremated, and his ashes cast out to sea in International waters outside New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
His children plan to put a memorial plaque in Ohio, at the grave of his beloved grandparents Art and Della West, His father and step-mother are nearby.
