William Washington Staley was born in Indiana to George Luther and Elizabeth Staley (both of North Carolina). On November 11, 1886, William Washington married Lucinda Blue in Edgar County, Illinois. Together they have 5 children, 4 who survive to adulthood. William & Lucinda live most of their married lives in Hume, taking in William's widowed mother Elizabeth in 1910. By 1940 William is a widower himself, and lives in town in Paris, Illinois with his granddaughter Louise Dick Wombles family. William dies at age 92, and is buried with his wife Lucinda in the Young America Cemetery.
4 children and their known marriages: 1. John Sherman Staley born 1887 marries young Sally Wombles who was born Clay County, Kentucky. John is buried in an unmarked grave beside his brother William in the Edgar Cemetery. His wife Sally & only child Ben are buried in the Sims Cemetery. Sally is unmarked, believed to be alongside son Ben. 2. William Dayton Staley born 1890 marries Gertrude (Keeling or Troop) who was born in Kentucky. They have 5 children. William is buried in the Edgar Cemetery next to brother John. His infant Marvin is also buried in Edgar Cemetery. Not known death & burial of Gertrude. 3. Ella Ann Staley born 1893 first marries Marion Mulkins. later as a widow, Ella marries William Wallace. She has children with both spouses. Buried Sims Cemetery with 1st spouse & child Walter. 4. Emma Jane Staley born 1897 marries Edward Dick, has children. later marries Ben Wombles, the widowed father-in-law of John Sherman, no additional children born to this mature marriage. Emma & Ben Wombles are Buried in the Edgar Cemetery. Unknown death date & location for Edward Dick, who was raised by the John Pingle family. Note: Emma's daughter Louise married Ben's son Ernest Wombles, and are also buried in the Edgar Cemetery.
