Enoch Rex Wingate, Sr., 65, of Tallahassee, FL died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Ledford will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #30 Honor Team. A private family interment will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery.

A native of Albany, GA, born on August 7, 1948 to the late Clarence Rex and Shirley Jean Ford Wingate, Rex graduated from Dougherty High School in 1966. In October he joined the U.S. Army. He proudly and bravely served his country with the Flying Circus 1st Bde (Airborne) of the 1st Cav (Airmobile) in Vietnam during 1968 and 1969. During which he received numerous service medals including the Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, thirteen Air Medal awards, the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Aviation Badge. After his honorable discharge in July 1969 he returned to Albany to live until moving to Georgetown, GA in 1999.

Rex lived in Georgetown for four years and relocated to Dyersburg, TN where he resided for seven years before moving to Tallahassee, FL in April 2010 to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Rex was self employed and the owner of Mighty Rooter Plumbing. In Nov. 1985 he earned his Master Plumber Class 11 license. He was a lifetime member of the U.S. Military Vets MC, VFW Post #2785, Vietnam Helicopter Crew Members Association, American Legion Post #30, the Loyal Order of The Moose #1285, Operation Bass Red Man Tournament Trail, North American Hunting Club and the Disabled American Veterans (D.A.V.) Chapter #46.

Survivors include his children, Barbara (Jonathan) Adkins and Enoch Rex (Nicole) Wingate, Jr. all of Tallahassee, FL, a sister, Debra Jean “Tiny” Wingate of Golden, CO and Steve F. Wingate of Baconton, GA, six grandchildren, Matthew (Beverly) Adkins of Ft. Bragg, NC, Joshua Adkins, Noah Adkins, Sheyenne Howell, Dessa-Rae Howell and Dakoda Howell all of Tallahassee, FL, and one great grandson.

Rex had many friends, Military Comrades and Battle Pirate buddies around the world. He will be greatly missed by all, but never forgotten.

The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
