Cornelius Amerman was born on January 15, 1738 in Jamaica, Queens, New York to Derrick Amerman and Margaret Polhemus. He was baptized January 15, 1738 in the Jamaica Dutch Reformed Church in Jamaica, Queens, New York.
Cornelius Amberman married Hepsobel about 1757 (See Amerman, Ammerman, Amberman Family Chart At The Jamaica Public Library) and they had one child, Derrick.
1. Derrick was born to Cornelius and Hepsobel in Queens County, and was baptized May 8, 1759 at the Reformed Dutch Church in New Hempstead, New York. Derrick married Margaret Ranous (b1762) about 1779 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Derrick and Margaret had four children.
Derrick can be found on the First Census 1790; lists in Dutchess County, page 91, Heads of Families. He served 1778-1779, as a private in Captain Samuel Pell's Company, Col. Philip VanCortland's regiment in the Revolutionary War. Derrick's wife Margaret applied for a pension, 1837, and her claim was allowed. Derrick died in 1813 in Dutchess County, New York at the age of 54 years.
Sometime before 1761, Hepsobel died and on the 19th of November 1761, Cornelius married Lambert Van Ausdalla in Jamaica, Queens, New York (m.b. 5:233).
Cornelius and Lambert had four children Daniel, Gurtye (Gertrude) Charity, Elizabeth "Betty" and Sarah b. 12th May 1764.
2. Daniel married Elizabeth, the daughter of Bernadus Bennett, and died April 6, 1841.
3. Gurtye "Gertrude" was also known as Charity.
4. Elizabeth "Betty" married a Hendrickson.
5. Sarah, the third child, married Peter Duryea on December 8, 1789. He died November 25, 1827; Sarah died August 14, 1846, age 82 years, 3 months, 2 days, at 1/2 past 7 in the evening.
Cornelius' second wife Lambert died before December 1764.

Cornelius served as a Private in Capt. Nathaniel Norton's Co., 4th New York Battalion, commanded by Lieut. Col. F. Weissenfels in 1779. Cornelius Ammerman of Captain Norton's Company was appointed a Corporal in Sd Company, his appointment commenced on November 1, 1780. Cornelius Ammerman/Amerman/Amberman died about sometime between 1783 and 1786. In 1786 Derrick requested bounty land for he and his 5 other siblings, since his father Cornelius was deceased; this was granted in 1792.

Inscription
It is rumored that Cornelius died on the battle field while fighting in the Revolutionary War in New York. Right now, the burial site is unknown.

There is an extensive Amberman chart by Charles Theodore Ammerman of Minesota in the Jamaica Public Library which shows Cornelius Amberman's first wife as being Hepsobel Amberman and their son as Derrick Amberman.
