This is my Mother's memorial.

Arlene Ida Wittenberg Mehling Farley Colyer Hutton was her full name. My mom was a very funny lady, extremely smart, and a terrific friend. But she was a bad husband picker! :) She loved me very much and she loved both her grandson's to pieces. I placed her ashes in the garden of my home (at the time) because she loved gardening and had an incredibly green thumb (a trait that has skipped my generation - seriously, I've killed air fern and cactus!). The spring after I laid her to rest, my garden burst with flowers that would have never seen the light of day if it were only my hand at work. Thanks mom, for always being there. I love you.

I remember being 17, riding with mom in her red Dodge Dart; the one with the black hardtop and like any teenager, I would rather have died than be seen with her in public so her "outgoing" personality was always an embarrassment. We were at the corner of our street waiting to make a right turn onto a very busy roadway and mom's patience was wearing thin waiting for the man in front of us to make the merge. She was getting more and more agitated and I was getting more and more nervous.

Finally, she couldn't take it anymore. She started furiously rolling down her drivers door window, while I'm begging her to "please ma, don't". She leaned her head out the window and shouted at the car in front - "The sign says stop! Not give up!!!" And leaned on that horn like they would stop making them tomorrow. At the time, all I wanted to do was crawl under the seat, sure everyone had seen me with this crazy lady. Now, I think it's the funniest memory I have of my mom and I love sharing it. Plus, I'm very proud to say, I've become just like her.

There is no marker or headstone. My mother's ashes were buried in the garden of my home.
Note: 1646 Nantahala Blvd., Mt. Pleasant, SC - Her ashes were scattered on the left side of the house, looking at it from the street.
Cremated, Ashes scattered.
Specifically: My mother's ashes were scattered in the 4' x 4' garden of my home. Because I didn't bury her in her urn but scattered her ashes in a space smaller than an actual grave, I cannot, at this time, create a memorial site.
