COOKMAN, Max Wayne, died suddenly April 27, 2009 at his home in Fruita, CO. He was born in Anderson, IN on August 7, 1943. His family moved to Phoenix in 1951 and he graduated from Carl Hayden High School in 1961. He attended Parks College - East St. Louis University for aircraft repair and graduated with multiple credentials. He worked as an airplane technician for many years, ending his career with America West Airlines. He moved to Fruita in the late 1980s and pursued his passion for training horses, becoming well-known locally for his skill with starting and "fixing" horses. Max rode his life to the fullest. He was never happier than when he was riding with friends, his dogs by his side, looking at the majestic backdrop of the Colorado Monument or the Bookcliff Mountains. He often said he was extremely blessed -- living in a place he loved, doing the things he loved. Those around him were blessed as well because to know him was to love him. Max was predeceased by his parents, Wayne and Ruby Cookman. He is survived by his sons, Darrell (Starr) and Duane Cookman and their mother, Jayne; siblings, Bill (Mary), Jim (Betty), Phillip (Patti), Becky and Jan (Tim); grandchildren, Rowan and Ella and many cousins, nephews, nieces and treasured friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 2, 2009 in Fruita. In lieu of flowers, Max would have loved donations made to the Mustang Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 703, Bertram, TX 78605. Max, we miss you and love you more than words can say.
