Charlton County Herald, x 12 Oct 1928:

"John Grooms Died. John Grooms, age 60, who had been living at Burnt Fort with his sister, Mrs. Lang, died Tuesday and was buried in a neighborhood cemetery."

1868: born Burnt Fort, son of Josiah Grooms and Sarah Ann Hagen. His father, Josiah Grooms, died in 1869.

1880: Columbia Co., FL living in household of Thomas Woods who married Sarah Ann Hagen Grooms after Josiah Grooms died 1869.

1889: J.E. Grooms married Martha McClellan, 21 Nov 1889, Charlton Co., GA.

1895: Martha McClellan Grooms died in childbirth.

1900: Charlton Co., GA

1910: Wayne Co., GA living with sister Lucy Rowell. Mother Sarah (Hagen) Raulerson is in this household as well. She remarried to Russell Raulerson when Thomas Woods died Jan 1881, Columbia Co., Fla.

1920: Charlton Co., GA. Living near Folkston with sister Miranda Lang.

1928: Died Burnt Fort. Bur. Burnt Fort Cemetery near his father's grave.

From the biography of Thomas Woods, Sarah Hagen Grooms' second husband:

"About 1873, Martha Jane Tyre Woods died and was buried on the Woods Plantation near Centerville. In 1874, Thomas Woods remarried to a neighboring widow, Sarah Ann (Hagin) Grooms, widow of Josiah Grooms. Sarah Ann was born 14 Jun 1820 in Bulloch Co., Ga. She married Josiah Grooms in the same county on 30 Dec 1840. They had a large family together. Josiah Grooms operated the ferry over the Satilla River at the Burnt Fort. He died there about 1869."
