Mary Ella Johnson, known as Ella, was born on May 17, 1861 in the Town of Union, Waupaca County, Wisconsin, to Alonzo Webster Johnson and Harriet Marie (Taylor) Johnson. She attended school in the Clintonville area. On January 1, 1880 she married Henry Howard Bingham in Waupaca County. After their marriage they lived for six years in Union township and then relocated to Norrie Township, Marathon County, Wisconsin. They had ten children and three of them died as infants or within the first year of life. They moved to Crandon in Forest County, Wisconsin, in July 1907 where some of their older children were residing. After Henry died in 1928, Ella lived with her son Allen. Ella died on May 28, 1940 at the home of her daughter, Harriet Sharp, in Crandon. She was survived by seven children: Allen, Harriet Sharp, Nellie Boynton, Maud Buchholz, Ray, Howard and George Dewey Bingham. Her burial took place in the Crandon Lakeside Cemetery.
