Austin was a major force and voice for first year Boy Scouts. Within the Iroquois Trail Council of the Boy Scouts of America, Camp Dittmer serves as summer camp for Boy Scouts while Camp Sam Wood is home to Cub Scouts.

Older Scouts enjoy several perks that Dittmer offers while new Boy Scouts "didn't have a place of their own." Over a three month period, trees were cleared, the ground leveled and a 24 foot by 32 foot pavilion that included an enclosed program room and incredible view of Lake Remick was constructed. "Austin believed our first-year Scouts are our future Scouts," said Ron Boyd, Austin's father. "The way to keep them interested is to make a good impression their first year."

In homage to the first Scouts led by Lord Robert Baden-Powell on Brownsea Island and in honor and memory of Austin J. Boyd, Camp Dittmer proudly calls itself home to the Austin J. Boyd Memorial Brownsea Pavilion.
