According to the New York State Veterans Museum:

Enlisted 05SEP1861 at the age of 19 in Rochester, NY to serve two (2) years.

Company K (Oswego County)
27th N.Y. Vol. Infantry Regiment
"Union Regiment"
COL. Henry W. Slocum, Commanding Officer

As of 17JUL1861 the 27th was assigned to 1st Brigade, 2nd Division and received it's "Baptism by fire..." at Bull Run. The unit faced 130 either killed or wounded in its first encounter with enemy forces. COL. Slocum was among the wounded.

The 27th participated in such campaigns as:
The Battle of West Point,
Seige of Yorktown,
Seven Days' Battles:
received heavy losses at both Gaine's Mill and Malvern Hill,
Fredericksburg and
endured the discomforts of the "Mud March".
A total of 19 were lost at Chancellorsville before mustering out on 31MAY1863 in Elmira, NY
