Jens crossed the Atlantic on the ship Emerald Isle in 1868 with his mother and siblings. His mother died in New York and the kids seem to have split up, some going ahead. Jens remained behind in New York, possibly until his mother's death, along with his youngest sister, Dorsine. When they continued on, it was with the Fred Anderson Company. Dorsine* died before they reached the Valley. In the Utah Cemeteries and Burials database he is listed as J. B. Thorsted.
