DAVIS YOUTH KILLED IN SKIDDING CRASH
An unusually slick road condition was the cause of a fatal auto accident Thursday of last week at 2:20 a.m. on the Davis ward road one-eighth mile beyond the turn-off from U.S. 40
Glenn Milton Holmes, 27, was killed when he lost control of his 1966 Pontiac GTO, due to a raise in the road where a culvert crossed, causing his vehicle to skid sideways on a slick surface and crash broadside into a utility pole, according to Bill Mott, Uintah county deputy sheriff who investigated the accident.
MR. HOLMES was taken to the Uintah County Hospital in an ambulance and died about one-half hour later of severe head injuries.
Mr. Holmes was born April 9, 1941 to William and Emma O Holmes, Jr. He married Tera Lee S. Holmes November 5, 1960 in Davis Ward. He attended Vernal schools and was a member of the LDS Church. He was employed by American Gilsonite Company at the time of his death.
Survivors include his widow; daughters Karen Lee and LouAnn Holmes, Vernal; Mother, Vernal; Brothers and sisters, Don, Lyle, Duane, Mac, Glade, Mrs. Paul (Barbara) Caldwell and Mrs. Earl (Laraine) Slaugh, all of Vernal; Grandmother, Emma Holmes, Sr., Vernal.
Funeral services were held in the Naples Ward Chapel Saturday at 11 a.m. with Bishop Everett Coon conducting.
Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park, Earl Slaugh dedicated the grave. Pallbearers were Don, Lyle, Duane, Mac, Glade Holmes, brothers, and Paul Caldwell, Brother-in-law.
Attending from out of town were Norman (Buzz) Holmes, Camp Pendleton, Oregon; Ted Stewart Olson, Salt Lake City and Mr. and Mrs. Duane Chivers, Ely, Nevada.
