Former New Castle grid coach dies

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (UPI)
A funeral is scheduled Monday for a former Lawrence County high school football coach considered to own the best record in Pennsylvania's prep football history.

Philip Bridenbaugh died Thursday at a nursing home. He was 100. Bridenbaugh, nicknamed the Fox," coached football for 34 seasons at New Castle High and compiled a record of 255-55-25. Former player and current New Castle High coach Lindy Lauro fondly recalled Bridenbaugh's inspirational
hautimc lockerroom speeches. "We would be down and he would
take us in at halftone. And when we came out, we came out feeling like we were about to play for a spot in
heaven," Lauro said.

A funeral is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday. Bridenbaugh is to be buried in his native town of Martinsburg.
