Lorraine L. Aberle, 76, Bismarck, ND, formerly of Edgeley, ND, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at her home in Bismarck. A memorial service will be held at a future date.
Lorraine was born on June 9, 1937, to Ray and Minnie (Schaller) Pomplun in Ellendale, ND. She was raised on the family farm just north of Ellendale. She attended Dickey County rural school and then high school in Ellendale, graduating in 1955. She attended college at Ellendale State Normal and Industrial College and received her standard teaching degree. She taught in Dickey County rural schools for two years before teaching in Hope, ND. She received her bachelor's degree in 1960 from Mayville State University, majoring in mathematics and elementary education. She later obtained a master's degree in education from Northern State University in Aberdeen, SD, and completed further graduate studies at Moorhead State College, North Dakota State University, University of Northern Colorado, and the University of Montana .
She and her family moved to Edgeley in 1961 where she taught mathematics at the Edgeley High School until retiring in 1992. During her time teaching in Edgeley, she led the school to win numerous math championships in both team and individual categories in university competitions at Jamestown College, Northern State University, NDSU, Concordia, and MSU.
In 1958, she married Richard Aberle of Berlin, ND. They lived in Hope for 3 years before moving to Edgeley. They moved to Bismarck in 2008.
Lorraine was a very special lady; passionate about teaching, motivating all of her students, and instilling a love of math. She was the grateful recipient of two kidney transplants which gave her additional years of freedom to work, travel, and spend time with family. Following her retirement from teaching, Lorraine was able to travel to Hawaii, Canada, and numerous European countries, as well as frequent trips to Mexico. She regularly visited her family in Oklahoma–including three ‘grand-puppies' who will miss the treats she would bring. Lorraine enjoyed Oklahoma Sooners football and OKC Thunder basketball.
Lorraine persevered through decades of medical complications and copious surgeries. Throughout that time, she maintained her focus on caring for others and love of family. The special love she had for her grandchildren has forever changed their lives and will never be forgotten.
Lorraine is survived by her husband of 55 years, Richard; their sons, Michael (Shelle), Bismarck; James (Marty), Oklahoma City; and Dana, Oklahoma City; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one brother, Raymond (Joann) Pomplun. All of which will forever remember her unending passion and commitment to family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Gordon.
