America Annucio Guffey was born in Alabama around 1834. Her parents were Alfred and Nancy Burrow.
By 1850 America and her family were living in Jackson County, Alabama according to her federal census records. It's stated at that time that she was the first child of her family to be born in Alabama. Her elder siblings were born in Tennessee. The 1850 census record lists the following members in her household:

On October 18, 1859, America was united in marriage to Charles Underwood Guffey. Her marriage record from "Alabama Marriages, 1809 - 1920" archives list her as "Annucio burrow".
Charles and America Guffey had at least three children that can be verified. A daughter, Martha Jane Guffey who died at the age of 24; and two sons; William Isaac and George Washington Guffey. William is buried in Tennessee and George is buried near by in Guffey Cemetery.
America Guffey's date of death is unknown. There are no known records that even give a year. However, her last available census appears to be 1870. According to the "Guffey Cemetery Map" that has been circulated amongst Guffey relatives, says that she is buried there with her husband. This map has proven to be very accurate for most of it's other interments while even showing precise burial location. Unfortunately, not all of Guffey Cemetery's headstones are still legible and some are only marked with a stone.
