|Death: ||Jan. 7, 1903|
Miss Jennie Craft passed peacefully away on the evening of January 7, 1903, at 9:30 o'clock. She had been a patient sufferer for many months, always enduring her sufferings with fortitude and Christian resignation. She and her devoted family made a brave effort to restore her health, but to no avail. More than a year ago she was taken to a hospital at Terre Haute and again a few months ago and under the skillful treatment of efficient surgeons it seemed for a while she would get well, but a short time since all hopes were relinquished and she was brought to her home. After her return she often spoke of the physicians and nurses of the hospital, always having a good word for them. The corps of physicians and nurses said they never had a patient that was so brave and cheerful amid her sufferings. Her amiable disposition and beautiful Christian character won them all.
A few days before her death she asked for her father, mother, brothers, sisters, relatives and friends who were present. She took each by the hand and spoke words of comfort to them asking each to live close to Jesus, to give themselves to Him, live faithful and meet her in heaven. She told them the end must soon come, that while she regretted to leave them yet she was ready to go and be at rest.
The funeral services were held at 11 o'clock on Friday, January 9, 1903, at M. E. church, in Bloomingdale, by Revs. Mitchell and Ballard. The sermon was from a text of her own choosing: "It is well with my Soul." The burial took place in Bloomingdale cemetery being presided over by the Rebekahs, of which the deceased was a faithful member. One of earth's heroines has gone to her better home.
