William was the first born, out of 6, (that lived, he had an unknown number of siblings that died in infancy) to Thomas and Hannah (Stewart) Gormly. His parents were both born in Ireland, but met and married in, Washington County, Pennsylvania.
William married 1st to, Nancy McCahon, in 1846, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. Nancy was the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth (Unknown) McCahon. Nancy was born in Ireland. And suffered the loss of her Mother, when Elizabeth jumped off of the ship, as it was docking in the harbor. Nancy died in 1852, probably due to complications from childbirth. William and Nancy were the parents of 4 children.

William married 2nd to, Susan Jane Harreld, on Feb 23 1854, in Washington County, Iowa. Susan was the daughter of John D and Sarah (Hudson) Harreld. Sarah's Mother "could" lead to the fame of Henry Hudson. And her father "is" 2nd cousin once removed to President/Governor/Senator/General Sam Houston. William and Susan gave an issue of 7.

William Gormly was a farmer and owned 120 acres in Crawford twp. Washington co., Iowa.
His death notice was printed in the Washington Eve. Journal, Dec. 31, 1895, and stated his said his was the largest funeral ever held in Crawfordsville.
