Samuel Edward Clark was a Mayflower descendant. His brother, James Cushman Clark was killed in the Civil War. Sarah A. M. (Betts) Clark, his sister-in-law is buried in Oakwood cemetery, d. 1899.
His father Dr. Asaph Clark died in 1832 and his mother died a year later. He and his brother and sister were orphaned, all being under 21 years of age. S. E. went to live with his uncle in Vermont. Sarah, his sister, went to Troy Seminary School for Females (Miss Emma Willard's school).
S. E. Clark as he was called was an Oil man. He drilled for oil in Parkersburg, WV and was successful for a while.
He was married in 1847 to Harriette Mather Betts in Betts Corner, N. Y (now Lysander). The Clarks lived in Brookyn, Troy, Parkersburg and Washington, D. C.
S. E. and Harriette Clark had four children, but only the two daughters lived to adulthood. Harriet Morgan Clark who married Louis Erwin Beall and Julia Francis Clark who married Beverly Cole.
S. E. and Harriette are buried in plot 131, Section F.
