Paul J. Artzer, 85, Topeka, died Saturday, Oct. 2, 1999, at a Topeka hospital.
He worked as a sheetmetal worker for Santa Fe Railway for 42 years.
He was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Topeka, the son of John and Mary Schwerdt Artzer. His parents died during the flu epidemic of 1917 and he was raised by his grandparents from the age of 3.
He was a member of the Catholic faith and the Eagles Lodge.
He married Geraldine Birdsell on Jan. 20, 1948, in New Orleans. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Donald and Ted Artzer, Topeka; two daughters, Ruth Ann Devlin and Sandra Barnett, Topeka; two brothers, George J. Artzer, Mission Hills, Calif. and Clarence "Curly" Artzer, Topeka; one sister, Sophie Sipes, Topeka; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11 a. m. Tuesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
