Jay Lafayette Hawks

A devoted Husband, Brother, Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather and friend, passed away on November 18, 2012 to travel to his heavenly home. Jay was born on July 25, 1923 in Storrs, Carbon County, Utah, son of Lafayette Hawks and Inez Lulu King and was a brother to Judge (Belva Hawks) and sister to Nola (Devere Baker).

Jay married Jacqueline Hobbs and from that union was born; Daniel Hawks (Ginger); Jimmy Hawks (Patsy); Michael Hawks; and Saundra Bertholf (Ken).

He married his sweetheart Gloria Jean Fenn on July 15, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada and the marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden Temple. This marriage added her two children to the family: Sherri Sillitoe and Darla Huff (Dan). Jay is also survived by 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jay was a member of the LDS Church where he was honored to serve in many priesthood callings including three Stake Missions. He loved his association with his ward family. He loved the Savior and had a testimony of his great teachings.

He served as a half-track driver in the Army during WWII. He later owned Jay's Autobody and loved to restore cars. His great love was playing guitars and singing County-Western music. He was proud to be an Ogden City crossing guard where he enjoyed the children's smiling faces. Jay loved to serve others, especially his family, and he looked forward to celebrating his birthday each year with his entire family by his side. His family will miss him until we all meet again.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 11 am at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
