Mrs. Rachel D. Anderson, age 88, of Rome, GA, passed away Friday, May 17, 2013, at her residence.
Mrs. Anderson was born September 19, 1924, in Lincolnton, GA, to the late Ida Mae and Floyd Dawkins. Rachel was a graduate of Lincoln City High School and the Southern Business University in Atlanta, GA. She worked as a secretary at Garden Lakes Elementary School and retired from the Floyd County Board of Education in 1989. She was a charter member of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church and belonged to the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Rachel was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Harold L. Anderson. She is survived by her son, Harold Anderson, Rome, and her daughter, Wana Anderson Sowa, Atlanta; grandchildren Brett Sowa, Jonesboro, and Cameron Sowa, Stockbridge; and a great grandson, Jak Sowa, Jonesboro.
Funeral services for Mrs. Anderson will be conducted Monday, May 20, 2013, at 2 p.m. at the Garden Lakes Baptist Church with Dr. Richard Kremer officiating. Interment will be in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Brett Sowa, Cameron Sowa, John O'Connor, Bob Bowen, Bob Puckett and Herman Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Fellowship Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at the church on Monday, May 20, 2013, from 12:30 p.m. until the funeral hour.
