James W. Alexander passed away September 9, 2012, at Park Plaza Independent Living Facility in Walla Walla.

He was born July 28, 1927, in Trenton, Missouri, to James and Hester Alexander. The family later moved to Walla Walla. He spent a short time in the Navy during World War II and was discharged when the war was over. During his brief military career, he received the World War II Victory Medal.

His father worked for the Union Pacific Railroad and later Jim also worked for the UPRR. He retired as conductor of the railroad at age 62. He married Doris E. Criss on June 5, 1949, and had five children. He moved to Kennewick in 1970, where he met his friend and companion of 30 plus years, Betty Compton.

Jim loved animals and during his life adopted several rescue dogs. He loved to boat, ride his Goldwing motorcycle and travel around the country in his motorhome visiting friends and family. You could always count on Jim to tell a joke or two. He loved singing and was quite the dancer. Doing crossword puzzles and writing poetry were a favorite pastimes.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Alexander and Gerald Alexander; sisters, Helen Tigh and Mildred Whitehead.
