TALKO - Michael J. "Iker," 79, Lilly, passed away, March 26, 2004, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Born July 1, 1924, in Lilly, he was the son of the late Paul J. and Mary (Cooper) Talko. Preceded in death by brothers, John, Paul J. Jr. and Andrew "Sam" Talko; brothers-in-law, Francis Simala and Edward McCool; and sisters-in-law, Helen Talko and Ann Talco. Brother of Joseph, Pittsburgh; Francis, and wife, Joyce (Lopit), Irwin; Elizabeth McCool, Lilly; Mary, wife of Mario Guastaferri, Waterbury, Conn.; Helen, Lilly; Madalene, wife of Roger Wiabel, Hendersonville, S.C.; Virginia Simala, Portage; and sister-in-law, Florence Talko, McKeesport. Also numerous nieces and nephews. Iker was a member of Our Lady of the Alleghenies Catholic Church, Lilly, Lilly American Legion and Lilly VFW and Slavish Citizens Club. World War II Army veteran. He was a graduate of Edinboro University. Graduate of Lilly High School. He taught for many years at Lilly, Washington and Penn Cambria School Districts. He played football and basketball at Edinboro University and Lilly High School. Friends received from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Thomas F. Cloherty Funeral Home, Lilly, where vigil for the deceased will be held Tuesday. Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of the Alleghenies Chapel, Portage Street, Lilly, the Rev. Msgr. John R. Sasway, V.F., celebrant. Committal, St. Brigid's Cemetery, Lilly. Military graveside rites by Lilly American Legion and Lilly VFW.
