Mike was the only one of six Belonger brothers to stay in Wisconsin. The others altered the family surname to "Blonger" and went west to find fame and fortune. One brother, Lou Blonger, became notorious as the king of Denver's underworld until his arrest in 1922.

Michael Belonger died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Coulthard in White Oak, Sunday morning, Dec. 21, 1924, at the age of 83 years and 7 months. Deceased was a veteran of the Civil War, a member of the 3rd Wis. Infantry, and had been in poor health the past six years. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Matthew's church, and interment was made in the Catholic Cemetery. An obituary will appear later.
