Marvin Hill was born about 1837. According to regimental records, he enlisted at age 24 from Antwerp, NY on Aug 17, 1861 for 3 years in Battery D, 1st Regiment, NY Light Artillery. He mustered into the Battery as a Private on Sep 6, 1861, but was appointed Corporal on the same date. He reenlisted on Dec 16, 1863. His unit fought in McClellan's Peninsula Campaign and the Seven Days Battles, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Bristoe, Mine Run, Grant's Overland Campaign (the Wilderness, Spotsylvania Court House, the North Anna River, Totopotomoy, and Cold Harbor), and the siege of Petersburg. Corporal Marvin Hill evidently experienced some form of disability for on Nov 28, 1864 he was transferred to the Veterans Reserve Corps (formerly known as the Invalid Corps.) He mustered out of service on Sep 4, 1865. Per pension records, he died on June 1, 1922 at Bloomington, NE.
