BETTENDORF — Paul L. Adams, 81, of Bettendorf, died Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Iowa Masonic Health Facilities, Bettendorf. Services in celebration of his life will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 20, at Weerts Funeral Home, Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 26, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the John Lewis Coffee Shop.
Mr. Adams was born in 1932 in Columbus, Miss., to James and Betsy Adams. He married Stella Darlene Schmiers on Dec. 13, 1951, in Rock Island. In 1952, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served until his honorable discharge in 1954. Paul was an assistant operating engineer for 36 years with the former Oscar Mayer Co., Davenport. He also owned the Adams Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Co. for 20 years. His was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church, Davenport. Paul enjoyed golfing, fishing and traveling.
Survivors include his wife, Stella; his son, Paul L. Jr. (Bev) Adams of Decatur, Ala, and their daughter Dena (Jeff) Diseron; his daughter, Sheryl (Robert) Vallory of Davenport and their sons, Brian (Julia), Kris (Bridget) and Scott (Angie); his daughter, Marsha (Warren) Oxley of San Antonio, and their children, Justin, Jeff and Kathryn; his son, Matthew (Kimberly) Adams of Indianola, Iowa, and their children, Nicole, Lynette (Lukas) Shea, and Paul; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, John, and stepsister, Linda Taylor.
