Lelia Gertrude Evans a lifetime resident of Garden City, Kansas was born December 24, 1908 and she passed away January 31, 2007. Funeral services February 2, 2007.
Gertrude married Merle DeForest Evan on May 20th, 1931 in Garden City. A homemaker, Gertrude enjoyed stitching, knitting, reading, crafts, making candy, traveling and her church activities. She was a member of the First United Christian Church of Garden City where she served as President of the Women's group for many years. She served as a Girl Scout leader and camp director for 25 years, a life and charter member of the Finney County Historical Society since 1959 where she served as a board member for 31 years, Order of the Eastern Star, Social Order of Beaucent since 1952, a life member of the Kansas Historical Society since 1954, and R.S.V.P. for 16 years.
Gertrude also volunteered at Dr. Fry's office, she volunteered at the Finney Clounty Senior Center, and she volunteered at the Methodist Church Clothing Center for many years.
Gertrude is preceded in death by her husband Merle who died on July 22, 1965. She is also preceded in death by her parents, 2 daughters, Virginia Evans and Phyllis Foster, 4 brothers, Ralph Calhoun, Harold Calhoun, Lloyd Calhoun and Elmer Calhoun.
Survivors: son Gerald and wife Linda Evans of Garden City, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
