Johan Elof Edin was born June 4, 1880, in Overammer, Jamtland, Sweden to Nils Johan and Kristina Agneta (Jonsdotter) Edin. He emigrated to North America on August 3, 1910. He left from Liverpool, England aboard the SS Laurentic on October 21, 1909, and went to Quebec. From there he went by train to Detroit, MI on October 29, 1909. His declaration of intention to be naturalized was filed in Duluth, St. Louis Co., MN September 22, 1910. His destination in the US was listed as Braham, MN. In it he indicates that he has a dark complexion, brown hair, and blue eyes.
Elof's address in 1942 was 519 Rush Street, Chicago, IL. Family members in the U.S. and in Sweden indicate that Elof operated a laundry service in Chicago and that he never married. The death certificate indicates that Victor Eden took care of the funeral arrangements upon the passing of Elof on March 15,1943 in Chicago, IL. He was buried at Rosehill Cemetery, Chicago, Cook Co., IL.
