Letter from J.P.Frances, Registrar and Archivist, Anglican Church of Canada, Diocese of Ottowa. The Rev. J.W. Padfield was educated at Upper Canada College, Toronto, and later taught there as well as in the Johnstown (Cornwall) Grammer School. He became a member of the Anglican Church in 1831, and was made Deacon in it on 20 April 1833 at St. James' Church, York, Upper Canada by the Bishop of Quebec. He was ordained Priest on 10 August 1834 at St. Mary's Church, March, Upper Canada, again by the Bishop of Quebec. He served at March and Huntley, Upper Canada, from 1833 to 1838, at Franktown, Upper Canada from 1839 to 1852, and finally at Burford, Ontario, from 1855 to his death in 1879. The Rev. J.W. Padfield died on 6 February 1879 at Burford, Ontario. There is an obituary of him in the Dominion Churchman of 19 June 1879. According to our information the Rev. J.W. Padfield and his wife had at least four children. Two of them were born while he served in the parish of March. They were: Charles William, born on 8 February 1835, and Stewart, Born on 18 November 1836. Among the other children, two were named Margaret Elizabeth and Anne.'
