4 Apr 1907, Humboldt, IA, USA "Death of Grandma Marble"

One of the oldest persons in the neighborhood of Humboldt passed from this life April 4, 1907, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W.J. Olmsted, two miles south of town. Mrs. Sarah Gillim Marble, more familiarly known as “Grandma Marble,” after a lifetime of nearly ninety years, has gone to her rest. The infirmities of old age had been heavy upon her for some time, and at last peaceful death came to her relief. Her daughter, Mrs. Olmsted, has ministered in all kindness for years. The deceased was born in Orange county, New York, September 7, 1818; the daughter of Johnson and Harriet Peck. She came to Iowa in 1866, after remaining a years in Wisconsin, and remained in this state forty-one years. In 1883 she came to Humboldt county. She became the wife of Wm. J. Marble in Plainsville, N.Y. The husband died about twenty years ago. Three children were born, Franklin E., who died in 1893; Grover L., now living at Marion, Iowa; and Mrs. Olmsted. Mrs. Marble gave herself to the religious life in girlhood, and joined the Presbyterian church in her native state. When she came West she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and has continued a member in good standing, a faithful Christian until death. The funeral was conducted Saturday, April 6, from the M.E. church, Rev. Alexander Bennett, the Pastor, delivering the sermon from Scripture text selected by the deceased, Isaiah 35:8-10. Interment was in Union cemetery. Card of Thanks We wish to express heartfelt thanks to the many friends and neighbors for their kindly sympathy during the last illness and death of our beloved mother, Sarah G. Marble.
