Erick Aho was born Erick Heinostenaho in Vaasen Laani Finland in 1865 or 1868. His father's name was Alex. He was married to Louisa (Lovisa) Temspaka and had five children: Victor, Robert, Rose(Ruusa), Hilma, and Matthew (Matti). Erick immigrated to America because of terrible economic conditions in Finland at the time. He left Hanko, Finland on February 8, 1902 aboard the ship Arcturus bound for Fort William, Ontario, Canada. He was 34 years old. He worked in lumber camps, ending up in Shelldrake, Michigan, where he worked until he was able to send for the rest of his family. On July 7, 1903, his sons Matti (age 21) and Robert (age 19) left Vaasa aboard the Polaris, transferring in England to the Ionian on July 9, 1903, bound for Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Their tickets cost 50 USD each. On July 27, 1904 Louisa (age 46), Victor (age 13), Hilma (age 14) and Ruusa (Rose)(age 16), left Hanko, Finland aboard the Polaris, transferring in England on August 2, 1904 to the ship Saxonia, bound for Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Their tickets cost 178 FIM each. The family bought the family farm and moved to Kinross in 1906. Matti was killed in a logging accident in Shelldrake. Erick was a railroad railroad crew foreman at a lumber camp. He died at the age of 62 of chronic nephritis and was buried on July 1st, 1927 at Lake View Cemetery in Kinross.
