Ruth Elizabeth Hooper Bresnahan died Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004, at her home in Harriman, Tenn. after an extended illness. In midlife, Ruth was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and lived with this painful and debilitating disease until her death.
Ruth was born August 31, 1923 to the late Walter Grady Hooper Sr. and Eva Pace Hooper. She lived at the home on South Mills River and graduated from Mills River High School, class of 1940. Ruth moved with her family from Mills River to Brevard (Calvert community) in 1945.
She worked in secretarial positions at Ecusta Corp, in Pisgah Forest, the Oak Ridge plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn. and the Detroit area. She and her husband, Jack, retired to Harriman, Tn. Ruth was an avid sportswoman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, archery and all outdoor activities.
She is survived by her husband; son, granddaughter and her husband, 2 great-great grandchildren; brother and wife;and a sister-in-law; and extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Grady Hooper and Eva Pace Hooper; brother, Walter "Buddie" Grady Hooper Jr.; and a daughter, Delores Jean Parries.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday February 6 at Mount Moriah Calvert Baptist Church, Brevard, with the Rev. Steve Jones officiating.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Kyker Funeral and Crematorium in Harriman, Tn.
