Illness Fatal to Ex-Teacher
Mrs. Callaghan Born in Wisconsin Mrs. Margaret Callaghan, 67, retired teacher of 5266 N.E. Rodney avenue died early Monday morning after a short illness. Mrs. Callaghan was born Margaret E. Brandmeier at Marshfield,Wisc., August 7,
1880. Her family moved to Superior, Wis. when Margaret was a young girl. She taught school in Superior for eight years. She came to Portland in 1915, and shortly afterward began teaching in Portland schools. She taught 27 years in the Woodlawn school, retiring just two years ago. In 1925 she was married to James Callaghan. Mrs. Callaghan was active in civic and church work. She was treasurer of the Ladies Altar society of St. Andrews parish at the time of her death. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Surviving relatives are the widower, three brothers and three sisters, Joseph E. and Henry A. Brandmeier in Seattle, Frank L. at Fond du Lac, Wis., Mrs.L.A. Belanger at Seattle, Mrs. J.E. Ward in Portland and Mrs. A.P. Morgan in Minneapolis.
The rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Zeller Funeralchapel.
Requieum high mass will be chanted at 9 a.m. Thursday in her homeparish. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary cemetery. (obituary)
