Mr. and Mrs. Beam were married on December 25, 1889 in the Short homestead, Hemlock, later destroyed by fire. With the exception of the first year, the Beams have resided their entire married life in the home which they occupy at present. This home was moved to its present location from its former site at the southern end of the village. Housekeeping went on uninterruptedly during the course of moving which required a week, Beam said.
Milling has been the life work of Mr. Beam, who with his son Floyd conducts the Beam flour and feed mill in Hemlock, one of the two mills still in operation in Livingston County of the bevy of industrial enterprises flourishing a quarter of a century ago. The Beam mill was founded by Daniel Beam in Glenville in 1882. The business moved to the village later, was destroyed by fire during the World War and rebuilt afterward.
Mrs. Beam is a descendant of Phillip Short, a pioneer settler of Hemlock. She received her education at Genesee Wesleyan Seminary, Lima. ... Both are members of the Hemlock Methodist Church of which Mrs. Beam has served as church auditor for a long period of time.
