His mother's brother Army Sgt. Nelson Phillip Cardoza Fonseca was a prisoner of War during WWII for 3 years in the Philippines at Prison Camp No. 1. , Luzon Island. He survived the Bataan Death March which followed the surrender of Bataan on 9 April 1942; Uncle Nelson was rescued and liberated during a daring raid by the 6th U. S. Army Rangers in January of 1945. He later served again in Korea. He is buried at Fort Gibson National Cemetery,
Grandson of: Philip Cardoza Fonseca (1890-1956) and his 1st wife, Maria Cardoza (Santos) Fonseca (1878-1933).Maria is buried in New Bedford. Bristol County, Massachusetts. Philip is buried in San Jose,Santa Clara County, California with his 2nd wife, Mary C. (Bateh) Fonseca (1897-1993).
