July 22, 1942 - July 17, 2013. Johnny Edwards passed into the presence of the Lord on July 17, 2013 after a long illness. He was born on July 22, 1942 in Atlanta, Ga to Mildred and James Edwards. He grew up in Atlanta and attended Southwest High School where he met his future wife, Carole. He attended the University of Alabama and was a life long Roll Tide football fan. He also loved NASCAR racing. He and his father started Edwards and Son Burglar Alarm Company in 1965 which he later sold to Marriott Corp. Then he and family moved to Ormond Beach where he purchased a convenience store and shopping center in the heart of Daytona. In 1985 he began selling real estate and along with Carole started Edwards Realty and Investments, Inc. which specialized in hotel/motel sales in the state of Florida. He was retired for the last 5 years of life. He trusted Christ to save Him and was born into the family of God in 1972. He was a member of Riverbend Community Church since 1991 and his church family there has faithfully prayed for him for many years. He and Carole married in 1966, and they had just celebrated their 47th anniversary. He was predeceased by his parents, Mildred and James Edwards and his son, Matthew Keith Edwards. He is survived by his wife, Carole; son Troy (wife Tasha), son Jason (wife Michelle) and son Shane. He is also survived by grandchildren Andrew, Ashley, Brittany, Lani, Chandler and Rhiannon and great-grandchildren Ethan, McKenzi and Aubree; sisters Jimmie Marie Astin (Bobby); Lynda Thurmond (Sam); Pamela Fordham and Patti Edwards. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 20 from 2 until 4 P.M. At Haigh – Black Funeral Home, 167 Vining Court, Ormond Beach. Funeral Service will be held at Riverbend Community Church Sunday, July 21 at 3 P.M. Officiated by Pastor Jason Karr and Johnny's nephew, Barry Hall.
