He was born October 7, 1917 in South Dakota to Nels and Bertha Berg. Mr. Berg attended schools in South Dakota and North Dakota and graduated from High School in North Dakota. He worked with his father on the railroad prior to serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in the Pacific Theater. Mr. Berg was united in marriage to his wife, Verna Stewart, on January 4, 1946. They moved to Winston in 1953 where he was employed by the Roseburg Lumber Company for 27 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Verna, and son, Ronald, and a grandson, Ryan of Lake Oswego, Oregon. He also leaves a sister Carrie Flatau, of Pierre, South Dakota. His parents and a sister proceeded him in death. Graveside services will be held Monday, November 8, 1993 at 1:00 p.m. within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Following the services, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at the VFW Hall, 570 SW Douglas Street in Winston. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made in Mr. Berg's memory to the American Lung Association or to a charity of choice. Those who wish may pay their respects Sunday, November 7, 1993 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Wilson' Chapel of the Roses who is in charge of arangements.
