Henry Small, a resident of Brown County 69 years arriving on March 20, 1866 before the origin of Horton, Kansas. He was considered to be a contributor to the history of the Horton community by being one of the town's first rural mail carriers. He carried mail in a horse-drawn buggy for 30 years. Mr Small was born near Dayton, Ohio. He married Susanna Fager on September 15, 1863 in Montgomery County, Ohio. Two years later they came to Kansas when the state was still young. Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Small, one daughter, Celinda Lucinda Belle and one son, Henry Harrison, proceeded him in death. Surviving children are Mellie Hartley, Harriet Noe, Elmer Small, Oscar Small, and Otis Small of Horton; Clara Keller, Kansas City and Harley Small of Cincinnatus, NY. Funeral services were held at the Horton Methodist Church. He was buried in the Kennekuk Cemetery in Brown County, Kansas.
