Rev. Clarence A. Martin, S.J., died Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Manresa Hall in Loyola Center Jesuit Community in Merion Station. Father was born in Baltimore, MD, on February 24, 1918, the son of the late Clarence and Agatha (Lancaster) Martin. Father began his philosophy studies in 1941 at the Jesuit House in Banguio in the Philippine Islands. After surrender of the American and Philippine forces in Bataan and Corregidor, he and his fellow Jesuits were transferred to the infamous Los Banos Prison Camp where they were rescued in April 1945. He is survived by three nieces; one nephew and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Clergy religious, relatives and friends are invited to his viewing at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of the Jesuit Community in Wernersville, PA, on Tuesday, January 26, followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery.
